The National Day Parade (NDP) is just around the corner. You know what that means? We get to deck out in red and white, and enjoy the stunning display of fireworks!
Besides the Red Lions’ performance, the National Day fireworks show is an event that thousands flock to watch yearly. This year, the highly anticipated fireworks display will happen at Marina Bay.
If you’re one of those who wish to feast your eyes on the bright explosive colouring the sky, here’s where you can catch them for free!
1. The Promontory @ Marina Bay
Located just outside the Marina Bay Financial Centre, this place is a crowd puller and rightfully so. Not only does it offer unblocked and up-close views of the fireworks, but the night view of the city skyline makes for a picture-perfect view. It also faces the Padang so you’ll catch every burst of fireworks from here.
Since it’s a prime location, you can expect large crowds to gather here hours before the fireworks go off. So, if you are planning to watch the fireworks from what I would consider the best spot, you might want to be more kiasu.
Grab a picnic mat, and some camping chairs and secure yourself a seat early. Surrounded by water and gardens, this greenfield outdoor space makes for a great picnic spot as you wait for the fireworks show.
Of course, once the crowd starts coming, you’d have to pack up your little picnic so more of our fellow Singaporeans can enjoy the show.
Address: 11 Marina Blvd, Singapore 018940
2. The Helix Bridge
Another great spot to watch the fireworks from would be The Helix, or what most of us would like to call the ‘DNA bridge’.
This pedestrian bridge links Marina Centre with Marina South, spanning 280 metres over the Singapore River. Overlooking the Bayfront area, this bridge offers another clear view of the fireworks.
Every year, this bridge gets filled quickly as everyone patiently waits for the fireworks show. It’s a magical experience being on the bridge that encloses its visitors with the double-helix structure. Watch as the light around you changes while the sky gets illuminated with colours. It’s sure to be a gorgeous spectacle!
Since it’s still a bridge, you may go earlier to chope a seat, but be considerate of other users and avoid blocking the way. As the evening gets closer, expect more people to pack the bridge.
3. The Lawn @ Marina Bay
Just across the road from The Promontory, you can find this oasis of greenery in the new downtown. The Lawn @ Marina Bay is located directly above Marina Bay Link Mall’s Subterranean Mall.
It might seem a little far, but not to worry. It’s a comfortable distance from the fireworks — near enough to see them but further away from the crowd. There’s a little more breathing space here since only so many people can fit in this large grass patch.
Though the roads in the area will be closed that day, being here means you could possibly get a headstart. Save yourself the trouble of having to squeeze through thousands of people to get to the MRT after the fireworks show ends.

4. Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay
Singapore’s Durian, officially named Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, is another vantage point to catch the fireworks for free.
Choose between the Waterfront Promenade, the Esplanade Roof Terrace or the Esplanade Bridge.
Along the Waterfront Promenade, you’ll find the DBS Foundation Esplanade Outdoor Theatre to comfortably wait in before the crowd rolls in. Once you see more people, take that as your cue to walk along the Singapore River outside the Esplanade and pick any spot you like.
If you find yourself blocked by the crowds there, consider going to the Esplanade Roof Terrace. You’ll probably find lots of people there too but at least you’ll be higher up! Alternatively, you can always hop onto one of the two bridges at the side to enjoy the fireworks show.
Address: 1 Esplanade Dr, Singapore 038981
5. Marina Square rooftop
Here’s another open-air terrace you can consider when deciding where to catch the fireworks display from. Located on the 3rd floor of Marina Square, this hidden outdoor rooftop is the perfect viewing platform, away from the main crowd.
Since you’re a distance away, you might not get a full view from all parts of the rooftop, but you’ll definitely catch a glimpse of the fireworks. If you’re lucky, you might even be able to spot other segments of the parade.
If you aren’t that crazy for fireworks, there’s no need to rush towards it. Have your main character moment and soak in the celebrations. Take a seat on one of the benches as you enjoy the breeze while watching the fireworks go off. Sounds nice, right?

6. Marina Barrage
Looking to spend the public holiday with your friends or family but still want to catch a glimpse of the fireworks display? Marina Barrage is just the place for you!
Not too distant from Bayfront, this lush green space faces the scenic view of the entire Marina Bay skyline. You’ll likely not see the fireworks show fully because of the tall buildings.
Fret not! With the shells flying high up in the sky, you’ll definitely get some peeks of them exploding between the towering buildings at Marina Bay.
I’d say not knowing when you will see the fireworks makes it extra special as you wait in anticipation of the next one. I can already hear the excited “woah!” and “omg!” that will fill the air at Marina Barrage on 9 Aug.

7. Gardens by the Bay – Bay East Garden
If you want to stay away from the Marina Bay area, head to Gardens by the Bay for a serene fireworks spotting session. Before you rush down there, make sure your route is not set for the Supertrees.
Instead, enjoy the breathtaking views of the Marina Bay skyline from the waterfront promenade at Bay East Garden. If you did end up going to Gardens by the Bay, that’s fine too. Just take a nice 20-minute walk and head to this hidden gem.
For a fun public holiday outing, plan a scenic run or cycle to the garden. Non-bike owners, you haven’t been forgotten. Apart from the Marina Bay GoCycling outlet, there are lots of affordable bike rentals as you walk along Gardens by the Bay.
After you’ve spent the day exploring, slowly head to the waterfront promenade to end your day with some spectacular fireworks!

8. Marina South Pier
If you are searching for a less crowded spot to catch the fireworks, look no further! Nestled along Marina Coastal Drive, Marina South Pier is the perfect place to get away from the crowds but still catch the fireworks from afar.
The pier’s open space provides plenty of room to spread out and relax, making it ideal for families with young children or anyone who prefers a quieter atmosphere.
You’ll still get to enjoy the panoramic view of the skyline and fireworks lighting up the night sky. Cosy up by the sea and take in the cool sea breeze.
It’s the holidays! You deserve to embrace the laid-back vibe and enjoy the stunning views for one night. It’ll be a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of our little city.

9. Boat Quay
For a vibrant viewing experience, head over to Boat Quay to watch the fireworks! This lively riverside spot is not only home to iconic bars and bustling nightlife, but it’s also a fantastic place to witness the fireworks.
You might not get a full sight of the fireworks but the reflections of it on the water will add an extra layer of magic. Coupled with the excitement and energy from the crowd, you can look forward to a mesmerising scene that is perfect for photos and videos.
Arrive early and grab yourself a spot by the river. Better still, grab something to eat and enjoy the thrilling vibes of Boat Quay as the sun goes down.

10. High Street Centre Car Park
Saving the best for last, enjoy a fun little hunt for this underrated fireworks-watching spot. Find your way to High Street Centre’s car park and head up to level 5 for an astonishing view of the fireworks show.
It might not be as glamorous as the pictures taken in the Marina Bay area, but you’ll get a unique perspective that’s just as captivating here. From here, you’ll find that the National Gallery Singapore sits beautifully in the front.
With a bit of trial and error, you’ll find the perfect angle to capture those Instagram-worthy shots that will leave your friends in awe.
So hurry, gather your friends or family and tell them you know a spot. This unsuspecting car park will be sure to leave their jaws wide open as the fireworks show begins.

Heads up! There’s one last preview on August 3 which will likely have a fireworks display. After that, it’ll be the big day as the actual parade commences on 9 August 2024 at The Padang.
So, if you’re planning on celebrating NDP 2024 with a bang, head down to one of these spots to catch the fireworks on these dates.
