To any Malaysian living in the Klang Valley area, you will know that KLCC Rotiboy is not only a staple of buttery goodness frequented by locals of all socio-economic status — it is even considered as one of the nation’s iconic landmarks. Really, no kidding.
With its signature coffee aroma lingering in the air, it works better than any navigation app in guiding KLCC LRT riders as soon as they step off the train.
Following the announcement of its indefinite closure that is taking place on 8 Sep 2024, I share the same grief with netizens on social media who believe that it’ll be quite jarring to no longer see the famous outlet after 21 whole years.
Malaysians have come together on the Internet to recall nostalgic memories they’ve shared with the outlet, one of them being how they used to count every cent they have at the moment just to get a bite of the treat.
Serving heavenly-soft sweet butter-filled buns topped with crispy coffee crust since 2003, those younger than KLCC Rotiboy might even see the humble store as one of their guardians growing up.
A commenter on Instagram describes the shutting down as “a national loss” and I cannot agree more.
Most have speculated that Rotiboy can no longer afford the high rental fees to keep its doors open in KLCC. After all, it had previously relocated temporarily to Wisma Central a few years ago for the same reason.
KLCC Rotiboy has thanked its loyal customers for the never-ending love throughout their 2-decade-long operation. They welcome all Rotiboy fans to upload photos, videos, or wishes with the hashtag #goodbyerotiboyklcc as a parting gift.
Nevertheless, all we can do now is move on and visit other outlets that Malaysia Rotiboy has to offer! Check out the one conveniently located at Pasar Seni LRT where you can find it on your transit to KLCC.
In line with their promise of “ending good things for better ones to materialise”, they have recently reopened 2 of their outlets with a much better look.
