Shio And Sato has viral shio pan by Masterchef SG Runner-Up

If you’re well-versed in our local bakery scene, you’ve probably heard of Sourbombe Bakery, a sourdough doughnut brand by Masterchef Singapore’s runner-up, Genevieve Lee. Her latest venture is Shio & Sato, which specialises in shio pan AKA Japanese butter rolls.

Have a first look into the brand’s offerings at their Takashimaya pop-up which is running from now till 31 October 2024. The stall has been seeing snaking queues for the past few weeks thus far, so hurry down to get a taste of these speciality goods before the pop-up ends! FYI: they’re so popular that they now limit each customer to six shio pans per visit.

At this pop-up, you can expect a variety of freshly-baked shio pan in both sweet and savoury flavours. We recommend you try the Original ($3.60) first to savour the Japanese-inspired bread in all its glory.

Although these artisanal bakes hold a striking resemblance to croissants, they’re a type of bread with a slightly crisp exterior contrasted with a super chewy inside—amassing a cult following around the world for its delightfully addicting texture that’s unlike any other.

Popular savoury picks include Kombu ($4.20), Green Chilli Onion ($4.80), and Miso Butter Corn ($4.80).

In a video detailing the BTS process behind Shio & Sato, Genevieve claimed that she had first fallen in love with shio pan after trying it for the first time at a local bakery. Like any of the memorable bakes she has tried, she immediately attempted to recreate it.

After months of laborious R&D, she managed to perfect her very own shio pan recipe and launched Shio & Sato as a pop-up. We are currently uncertain about the brand’s future plans after this pop-up ends, but stay tuned for updates!
