Young hawkerpreneurs trying to keep family traditions alive are a dime a dozen these days, and AhMah’s Legacy is one such story. 27-year-old LASALLE graduate Shiny Phua runs the show here, making Teochew kueh by hand with her late grandmother’s recipes.

What started out as kueh-making workshops to share knowledge of the art ground took a halt when COVID-19 lockdowns came into play. This prompted Shiny to sell assorted kueh that she had learnt at 10 years old, eventually birthing AhMah’s Legacy in 2020.

This traditional treat also comes with a fun twist in flavours such as the Pure Pistachio ($6) and Milo Gao ($4.50), where the former is loaded with crushed pistachios for a textural contrast against the chewy kueh skin. FYI, their menu changes from time to time so we encourage you to check with AhMah’s Legacy for availability of the items.

If you’re not a fan of ang ku kueh, AhMah’s Legacy also has muah chee in flavours such as Peanut Sesame ($5) and Salty Pistachio ($7). The former sees hand-pounded muah chee tossed with hand-roasted peanuts infused with shallot oil, which are then crushed and mixed with toasted white sesame seeds. The pistachio muah chee, on the other hand, is evenly coated with roasted pistachios, salt, and sugar, then topped with shallots for an aromatic finish.

FYI, AhMah’s Legacy will be closed for renovation from 21 to 23 February and from 28 February to 2 March 2025, so check out their Instagram page for the latest updates on their reopening.
