Buffalo chicken dip with blue cheese is one of my favorite party dips and it’s so easy to make! I’m definitely a fan of buffalo wings, so I love packing all those flavors into one creamy appetizer dip. Shredded chicken, cream cheese, blue cheese, and hot sauce bake up into this easy buffalo dip in about 30 minutes. And I’ve added a couple of lighter swaps to make this recipe for buffalo chicken dip a littler healthier too!
I made this baked buffalo chicken dip recipe with lots of blue cheese crumbles because I love its unique flavor. I also wanted to make it a little lighter for guilt-free snacking on game day, so I use Greek yogurt and light cream cheese. That brings this dip to just 130 calories per serving!
What’s in this easy Buffalo Chicken Dip recipe?
You only need 5 ingredients and a couple of spices from the cabinet to make this buffalo chicken dip recipe!
- Chicken: Use pre-cooked shredded chicken, or pick up a rotisserie chicken from the store.
- Cream Cheese: Light or reduced-fat cream cheese gives this dip so much creaminess while saving some calories and fat. Be sure to set it out to soften before mixing.
- Plain Greek yogurt: Greek yogurt takes the place of the ranch or blue cheese dressing typically found in buffalo chicken dip recipes to lighten things up.
- Hot Sauce: Frank’s RedHot sauce is my favorite for this dip, but any type of hot sauce will work.
- Crumbled Blue Cheese: These will go directly into the dip and on top. They’ll melt into the dip while it bakes in the oven to give every bite a tangy blue cheese flavor!
- Seasonings: Garlic powder and onion powder give this dip an extra kick of flavor, reminiscent of ranch seasoning.
Variations To Try
Obviously I really like the flavor of blue cheese, but you can just as easily make this baked buffalo chicken dip without it. Replace it with feta or goat cheese crumbles, or skip them entirely. You can sprinkle shredded cheddar, mozzarella, or another cheese on top as well.

How to Store and Reheat
Store buffalo blue cheese chicken dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a 350°F oven until fully warmed through; or in the microwave in 30-second intervals. It can also be served cold, straight from the fridge.
I generally don’t recommend freezing this dip because of the creamy dairy ingredients (yogurt and cream cheese), which don’t reheat well.
Notes and Tips
There’s really not much to do to make this buffalo chicken dip ahead of time since it’s so simple to throw together. However, I do sometimes combine the ingredients and place them in a baking dish, then cover it and keep it in the fridge a few hours before a party. That way it’s ready to go right in the oven as soon as guests show up!

Yes, just mix ingredients as instructed, then (instead if baking) just store the dip in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
This recipe does include hot sauce, so it should be about as spicy as typical buffalo wings. But you can use more/less to fit your preferences.
Be sure to bake the chicken long enough to fully heat the dip all the way through. The chicken should be cooked already, but it does need to be heated to 165°F.
