When it comes to luxury, Louis Vuitton is among the first names that pop up. They have managed to sustain their legacy for nearly 200 years. In 2025, LV is launching the Louis Vuitton x Murakami Re-Edition Collection. For its launch in Southeast Asia, a Louis Vuitton x Murakami pop-up is happening at Joo Chiat Place.
Fashion icon and actress Zendaya is the face of the campaign. The re-edition is a testament to LV’s brand longevity and its ability to stay relevant.
The Pop-Up
From 4 to 19 Jan 2025, the Louis Vuitton x Murakami pop-up will take over a classic Peranakan shophouse at Joo Chiat. Walk-ins are complimentary for all customers.
Organising the pop-up at Joo Chiat is truly unorthodox for such a high-profile brand. Many other brands usually stick to downtown areas like Marina Bay and City Hall. LV themselves have many outlets in the CBD area.
So, why Joo Chiat?
The Louis Vuitton x Murakami pop-up is a celebration of Peranakan culture. The food, the architecture, the desserts and much more. The pop-up intends to go beyond luxury and fashion, incorporating the traditional with the modern.
With Joo Chiat’s recognition by UNESCO, it is the perfect place to host their pop-up.
However, note that the pop-up will be closed to the public on the dates and times below:
- 6 January, 11am – 2pm
- 8 January, 5pm – 8pm
- 9 January, 5pm – 8pm
- 10 January, 5pm – 9.30pm
- 17 January, 11am – 1pm
The Retail Space
Once you enter the pop-up, you will be greeted with Chapter One of the Louis Vuitton x Murakami Re-Edition Collection.
This initial launch features a revamp of the classic Monogram Multicolore with 33 different colourways. Artist Takashi Murakami adds a touch of vibrant youthfulness to the collection with a series of charms and multi-coloured prints.
The adorable Superflat Panda of Murakami’s makes a comeback for this collection.
For the pop-up in Singapore, we have a special addition. The Superflat Panda card holder is exclusive to the Singapore pop-up!
With the Y2K style making a huge comeback in 2024, LV hopes to connect with a whole new audience of youngsters, particularly Gen Z.
The brand is blending its iconography with a much fresher take on luxury fashion. This is reflected in the overall aesthetic of the entire pop-up and the new merchandise.
The Louis Vuitton x Murakami Re-Edition includes a backpack, small accessories, an exclusive Superflat Panda puzzle, caps, sneakers and even a skateboard. It is a reflection of the dynamic style of the Gen Z audience.
Here comes my favourite part of the entire pop-up. LV has committed to reliving the early 2000s by bringing in a Gachapon station!
Get a token by purchasing any item from the LV x Murakami Re-Edition Collection from either the pop-up or any of the downtown LV outlets.
When you slot in your token, you stand a chance to get either a Takashi Murakami design sticker pack, trading cards, or a Tamagotchi.
The Care Room
If you have a vintage LV x Murakami piece that needs refreshing, take it to The Care Room. A professional artisan will provide on-the-spot refurbishing services.
Most of the services are complimentary. However, replacement of the straps and handle and repainting of the design are a paid service. Seek the relevant personnel for prices.
The Cinema Room
The pop-up also features remastered versions of Superflat Monogram (2003) and Superflat 2 (2009). Inspired by Alice in Wonderland, protagonist Aya wanders through the world of Murakami.
The Cafe
The cafe plays with the shophouse layout to achieve a Vaporwave, retro-futuristic aesthetic. It is pink and cosy with a beautiful skylight on top.
Since it was a hot day, I got the Iced Butterfly Lemonade (S$12.50). The drink came with an LV x Murakami-branded napkin and cup, featuring the Superflat Panda.
You can also get a Black coffee (S$12.50), White coffee (S$13.50), Coconut Latte (S$13.50) or Iced Cherry Plum (S$13.50). Oat and soy milk will cost an additional S$1.
The drinks come with an LV x Murakami-branded napkin and cup, featuring the Superflat Panda.
