I have a suggestion on what to do with your leftover ham that can start your day on the right track. Admittedly, it can be tough to get out of bed in the morning. But when you know you are in for a tasty breakfast treat, you are bound to be up and at it in no time! That’s why I like to whip up dishes that inspire me first thing in the morning. And another requirement I like to have is that it is quick and easy so that I would not have to be too stressed when I start my day. Looking for the same kind of dish? Look no further, as this Ham Fried Rice is perfect for you!

What is Ham Fried Rice?

The name of this dish would probably give you a good idea of what to expect. Salty, but also somewhat sweet due to the ham, this flavorful side dish is one that is hard to say no to. It’s got such great savor from soy sauce, sesame oil and many other seasonings and spices that give your rice a boost. It is basically a delicious hodgepodge of bits of ingredients like our ham, bell peppers and green onions.

Let’s take a look at more components we will need for our Ham Fried Rice.

What are the Ingredients?

You definitely cannot recreate this recipe without 4 cups of cooked rice. As you may have expected, it would be best to use day-old rice for this recipe so that it is not too sticky, and would possess that perfect texture for fried rice. We will also need 1 cup of chopped ham, 2 beaten eggs, and 4 tablespoons of canola oil. It isn’t a wholesome breakfast dish without some nutritious ingredients such as 1 bell pepper, 1 onion, and ½ cup of green onion, all of which we’ve chopped. For the green onion, make sure to separate the white part from the green part.

To get the flavor of our fried rice perfect, we will also need 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of sesame oil, and some salt and ground black pepper.

How to Cook Ham Fried Rice

1. Preparing the eggs

step 1 ham fried rice prepare the eggs

Pour some cooking oil into a pan, and let this get hot. Add your eggs, and fry them until they are fully cooked. Transfer these to a clean plate, and then just chop them up with your spatula.

2. Cooking the ham and veggies

Let’s get our ham, and place this in the same pan. Sauté the meat with your remaining cooking oil for just 2 minutes. Afterwards, toss in your onion, bell pepper, and the white part of the green onion. Keep sautéing everything for 1 minute.

3. Adding rice and seasonings

Get your cooked rice, and put this in the pan. Now just toss everything together until you have blended all the ingredients perfectly. Then you can pour your soy sauce alongside sesame oil into the pan, and toss the ingredients together again.

4. Integrating the last few ingredients into the rice

We can add our cooked egg from earlier, as well as green onions. Just toss these into the rice, and keep cooking for just 3 minutes. You can top this all off with as much salt and ground black pepper as you’d prefer.

How to Serve Ham Fried Rice

Now wasn’t that fun and easy? All you have to do now is serve your delicious fried rice while it is irresistibly warm. You may transfer everything to a serving plate, but you may also opt to eat this straight out of the pan. I definitely enjoy having Ham Fried Rice on its own. But if you are looking for a savory dish to pair it with, I would suggest trying this with lumpia or spring rolls or fried chicken. Crunchy treats like these often go perfectly with fried rice.

How to Store Ham Fried Rice

Want to keep the fried rice safe for eating for about three days more? No worries, as we can simply let the rice cool to room temperature before placing this in an airtight container. Then you can refrigerate this for, as I mentioned earlier, three days. Just make sure to double check the quality of the rice before reheating and gobbling this up!

As for reheating, I would suggest doing so only once to retain the quality of the rice. You can put this back in your pan, and heat this up for a few minutes, depending on how warm you would like your rice to be. And keep mixing your rice every once in a while to get the heat to distribute evenly. In most cases, four minutes would be enough to get your fried rice to taste similar to how it was when newly cooked.
