Greek Chicken Recipe
This Lemon Oregano Chicken is a favorite at our house! The marinade, featuring a perfect balance of olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper, infuses the meat with a juicy tenderness that’s simply irresistible. Grilled to perfection, the chicken boasts a tantalizing char that adds depth and complexity to its already delightful taste. Whether served hot off the grill or sliced atop a bed of greens, this chicken is a culinary delight that’s sure to leave your taste buds singing with joy.
How to Make Lemon Oregano Chicken Marinade
This dish is easy to make with only a few simple marinade ingredients. Place chicken in a Ziplock bag. In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, fresh lemon juice, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Pour the marinade over the chicken and store it in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
Remove the chicken from the marinade. Place it on a hot grill and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the chicken reads 165ºF. Garnish chicken with fresh oregano and lemon slices.
Helpful Tips & Frequently Asked Questions
- You can use this marinade on any cut of chicken– chicken breasts, chicken tenders, chicken thighs, chicken wings, or chicken drumsticks/legs.
- You can use boneless or bone-in chicken. Adjust the cooking time to ensure an internal temperature of 165ºF.
- I suggest pounding the chicken breast to an even thickness. We put the chicken in a ziplock bag and use a flat meat mallet to pound out the hump carefully. This ensures that the chicken cooks evenly, and you don’t have juicy chicken and half-dry chicken.
- I don’t have a grill. Can I cook the chicken in the oven or skillet? Yes! To cook the chicken breasts inside, pan-sear it for 3 to 4 minutes per side over medium-high heat. Place on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake at 400ºF for 10 minutes.
- For extra lemon flavor, add lemon zest to the marinade.
- Can I freeze Lemon Oregano Chicken? Yes! You can freeze the chicken uncooked or cooked.
- Prepare the marinade. Place the chicken in a freezer bag and pour the marinade over the chicken. Seal the bag and freeze. When ready to cook, thaw in the refrigerator overnight and cook.
- To freeze cooked chicken, cool completely and place in a freezer bag and freeze. Thaw and reheat in the microwave.
- Store leftover chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- Store leftover chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

When it comes to serving alongside lemon oregano chicken, the possibilities are as bright and flavorful as the dish itself.Â
- We like to serve this chicken over a bowl of orzo, marinara sauce, and feta cheese.
- Pair it with a vibrant Greek salad, featuring crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, briny olives, and creamy feta cheese tossed in a creamy dressing. The refreshing contrast of flavors and textures complements the chicken’s citrusy notes beautifully.Â
- Additionally, consider serving garlic-infused rice on the side. This provides a hearty base for soaking up the delicious juices from the chicken.Â
- Grilled vegetables such as zucchini, bell peppers, and eggplant add a delightful charred sweetness that perfectly balances the savory chicken.
