NYP North Canteen reopens with wallet-friendly food options

Must Try

Students and staff of Nanyang Polytechnic, say hello (again) to a newly-renovated North Canteen. With the reopening of the canteen on 1 Apr 2024, you now have 2 fewer things to worry about — wallet-draining prices and not knowing what to eat for lunch.

The North Canteen has been revamped under the management of Foodgle Hub, a notable food court chain with a presence in tertiary institutions. They previously occupied a space in Block P1 that shuttered on 15 Mar 2024 but they’re here to stay at Block E.

Situated near the Campus Centre, it is a popular lunch spot among members of the institution. It’s open to the public as well. Of course, they’ve got a whole line-up of 10 stalls to cater to these crowds.

Don’t fret about the crowds just yet, though! If you hate waiting in line for your food, you’ll be delighted to know that you won’t need to.

Each stall is equipped with an iPad that you can use to place your order and pay for it with your preferred mobile banking app via QR code. Feel free to stand where it isn’t crowded or sit back and relax as there are TVs placed around the canteen that will chime and flash order numbers from every stall.

Although the canteen is freshly renovated, you’ll notice several familiar faces among its array of stalls. One of these is famed scrambled egg rice stall Danlao. Occupying the space of 2 whole stalls, this is the popular joint’s biggest outlet yet.

The fare is also apparently cheaper than that at the chain’s other outlets, with a bowl of Luncheon Meat Egg Rice priced at just S$4.50 (U.P. S$5).

Myeongdong Kitchen is another presence that many will be thrilled to see again. This well-loved stall offers value-for-money Korean crowd favourites with the likes of Jjajangmyeon (S$4.50), Kimchi Fried Rice (S$4.30) and even Ginseng Chicken Soup (S$6.80).

Some welcome additions to the line-up include a ban mian & fish soup stall, a Muslim-operated Fusion Cuisine stall and AWE by OsomeFood, a nutrition-focused plant-based food brand.
