Last night’s Samsung S25 launch at Galaxy Unpacked packed a few surprises. The new Galaxy S25 series obligingly ticks the expected bigger screen X lighter weight X better camera trifecta, but the release of the Galaxy Ring and teaser of a rumoured fourth member of the S25 line-up were also intriguing.
Most interestingly, all 3 models – the S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra – are priced lower than their S24 series counterparts. And you can save S$180 more with the current pre-order offer.
S25 series – main upgrades
We’ve become accustomed to the incremental upgrades between every series and the Samsung Galaxy S25 launch kept to the script. The outlier is chip performance, with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform decimating the S24 series in terms of CPU, GPU and NPU (AI) performance by at least 30% and, in some cases, by as much as 68%.
Other than that, the upgrades are not quite as monumental.
We all cringe at grainy night videos, and the S25 launch showed the difference that the upgraded Nightography Video makes. This is the feature that I am most looking forward to.

S25 Slim
There had been rumours for months that the S25 launch would also debut what has become known in fan circles as the S25 Slim. Speculation has been rife that this super-thin model would be added to the Galaxy range, making it a fourth option (or fifth, if you consider the FE models).
What we were teased with, though, at the end of Galaxy Unpacked, was the S25 Edge. It was a view of phone parts but devoid of any other details. It may be joining the Galaxy S25 line-up in May 2025.
Samsung Galaxy Ring
Another one of the interesting reveals at the S25 launch was that the Galaxy Ring is now available in Singapore. After debuting around the region last year, the Ring has shown enough promise to be able to grace our fingers, too.
I use a smartwatch primarily as a sleep and fitness tracker, and didn’t quite understand what customer niche smart rings would occupy, given they perform a very similar role. A Samsung representative explained that the Galaxy Ring is perfect for 2 user personas:
- those who prefer a dress watch to a smartwatch
- those who fret at wearing a comparatively bulky watch all night
If you fall into those categories, the slim, light, unintrusive Galaxy Ring could be the gadget you need. Best of all, the elegant gold, silver and black finishes render it indistinguishable from a regular ring.
