Uncle Roger, or Nigel Ng, has surprised fans again by establishing his second and third restaurants. Fuiyoh! It’s Uncle Roger is slated to open in MyTown Shopping Mall as well as IPC Shopping Centre.
This follows the incredible success of his original restaurant, which was also headquartered in KL and became a popular hangout for foodies. His distinct combination of wit, online popularity, and genuine enthusiasm for Asian cuisine has drawn enormous crowds.
During my visit to the first outlet, queues extended for 1-2 hours, demonstrating the restaurant’s appeal despite the long wait. Speaking to locals in the area, I found that queues can be up to 3 hours long. Yet, many are willing to queue just to try his fried rice.
The cuisine of Uncle Roger’s restaurant reflects those he frequently promotes on his viral YouTube channel. The star dish, of course, is his original fried rice, which comes in a variety of flavours, including egg fried rice with garlic shrimp, spicy fried rice, and special fried rice topped with a crispy sunny-side-up egg.
Another popular favourite is the Kimchi Fried Rice (RM18) served with pan-seared fish, which provides a smokey flavour that some customers regard as the closest to a real wok hei experience.
The interior design mirrors Uncle Roger’s comedic persona, with bright orange décor, whimsical details like LED signage, and even an Uncle Roger cutout. The vibe celebrates his comic flair and gourmet sensibilities, not simply the food.
With long lines, tasty dishes, and a lively ambience, Uncle Roger’s restaurant is a popular destination for both his admirers and foodies seeking an authentic Asian eating experience.
